Walter Allied

Walter is am amazing ally to the Trans community. I had planned to interview Jack for todays blog and walter for next month,  but the fates conspired. So I thought instead, today I would share some portraits I made of Walter and a poem I wrote about him.  Interviews still to come.

Walter - Got yer Back - 11-7-13

He's a long hair 

sharp words and a quick  Glare

He'S Stomping the lies politicians are spinning

Downing the hooch, rhymes pour from WithIn him. 

Puffin on his sticks while the tunes are WINning

dude isn't gonna hide that he's on our side.

,He stands for our rights even knowin' that the fight is a long haul. Gonna make the best crawl

Still ...

Holds our colors with pride,

shows he's on our side, 

'cuz the T is not silent 

when an ally packs the rhymes with more than a nod, 

yeah the actions go behind it.  

Spitting his words, 

at the late night hour

Shows that he cares

When speaking from power

 He stands for our rights even knowin' that the fight is a long haul. Gonna make the best crawl 

Get our backs against the wall...

But Walter has a word, 

More like two or three

For the brother or sister

Longing to be free.

He's always there for a friend in their darkest hour 

He knows.the words we speak.they come.with a power

Dissent is the way

That he shows his love

Transgender Awareness

A Day of Remembrance - 11-4-13

Every year on or around November 20th, people come together in their respective cities to remember those lost to anti-Transgender violence. It is a powerful event, full of emotion. But there is so much more about being Trans* or gender variant than danger and fear. 

There are amazing things which have been done and are being done by people who are simply being themselves no matter what society, friends, family, etc. may have to say in support or against doing so. In the coming weeks I plan to spot light a Transgender or Gender Variant artist.  I'll call it Trans* Tuesdays if you will. Today I thought I would celebrate November, Trans* Awareness month with this blog entry and by sharing some of my own Trans* related art.

Inspired - Truth and Consequences Series (part 1)

Today was a day of making much art, both ink and digital manipulations. Actually since my most recent ER visit I have been really inspired and since I have mostly been recovering with bed rest and trigger avoidance, I have had plenty of time to sketch and to digitally manipulate those sketches.

My art tends to be called outsider art and has been very healing for me as I deal with chronic pain and illness, and searching for a diagnosis over the last 20 plus years. Recently my health problems prevented me from using my previous favorite media, but the changes have really helped me to focus on my small motor coordination and cultivate a spirit of peace as I breathe with each stroke and try not to rush my drawings.

The media I use varies depending on the moment, what is available to me, and what best fits the project. I tend to use Acrylics, Ink, Watercolor, Fiber Arts, Clay, Glass, Duct Tape, Wood, and Photography.

After dealing with chronic pain and health problems for more than half my life, I recently had a turn for the worse and my health problems became severely limiting of what I could do without severe allergic like reactions. I was stuck in bed or the house a lot, and felt anxious at never knowing when an ER trip would be happening.

It was stressful and I did not want to give up or give in, so I decided to use whatever I could to create art daily. If I didn't have a pen and paper or couldn't get to my art room, I could use my phone. I challenged myself to make a doodle based on a positive, empowering or inspiring word daily.

Whether it's to doodle on my phone, make mandalas, zentangle, or something entirely different, I continued to make art daily since then, and have found it fulfilling my artist spirit, and empowering myself and others. I hope you find my art brings you as much peace, joy and empowerment as it has me.

COMING SOON: There will be sections for various series and types of art that I am working on. I look forward to sharing my art and interacting with you. I hope that my art brings others as much peace and joy as it has for me. Sections will include Daily Doodles/Phone Art, Meditative Markings, Masto Maybelle and her Faithful Friends, and more. All art work in the Masto Maybelle and Friends collection will raise money for Mast Cell research and related charities. Stay tuned as her first faithful friend and sidekick will be revealed soon, more coming soon!
