"Transformation" Masto Maybelle, Our Heroine

Here you will find the ongoing adventures of Masto Maybelle and Faithful Friends, a group of children with rare diseases who empower themselves and others by creating super hero personas.

Maybelle was created during one of my daily art sessions. Every day I make something creative in order to deal with my emotions around a recent worsening of health problems, lengthy search for diagnosis, and subsequently finding I have a Mast Cell Disorder but no cure exists. My hope is that she her Faithful Friends will empower, inspire and bring joy to others as much as creating them does for me. Along the way we hope to raise awareness about mast cell disorders and other rare diseases. Each of these prints was created with a story in mind, which you can read bellow.

"Wonder" Brian, Maybelle's First Faithful Friend

The main characters so far are Masto Maybelle, Brian whose super name is yet to be revealed,  and Maybelle's nemesis, The Evil M.

Maybelle is a young girl with Mast Cell Activation Disorder, and Brian is a creative boy with Mastocytosis. Please follow along as they and other friends meet and band together to do battle against the Evil M, Ana and Phil Axis, and more. "Transformation" The Introduction of  Maybelle:

...as Maybelle put her breathing mask on an idea began to form in her mind. She grabbed her brother's snorkel mask,some fishnet stockings and suddenly she was transformed. Standing looking back at her from the mirror was a new being. A super hero like No other. Strong confident and with a gleam to her eye she loudly proclaimed, "I am Masto Maybelle, defender of the planet earth!"

"Wonder" The introduction of Brian:

Brian tossed his e-book aside and flopped down on the bed. He had already read every comic and sci fi his mom would let him download cover to cover so often and some he even knew by heart. "Brian your medicine is expensive!" He mimic'd in a sing song voice, and tried to ignore the guilty feeling inside as he grumbled to himself. The truth was he didn't want to bother his mom for another game or book when he could still remember the sad look on her face last time she had to say no.

He stared up at the mural he'd painted on the ceiling and wondered if it were time to start it over again. Soon the swirling night sky of his mural gave him visions of being in a rocket zooming through space and time. He could go wherever and whenever he wanted and no one would give him those looks or call him bubble boy again. Instead he would be...
